Friendship is, without a doubt, a wonderful and loyal bond of union that exists not only between human beings, but also between animals, who know very well its true meaning, regardless of whether they are wonderful dogs and cats.
Just like what happened to Chico, an adorable little dog, and Coco, a tender kitten, they have left aside what we have heard so much “they fight like cats and dogs.” These friends have shown that love and solidarity go beyond differences.
Coco and Chico’s story began when they met at Barky Pines Animal Rescue & Sanctuary.
Coco is a beautiful kitten who was 3 months old when she arrived at the Royal Palm Beach Animal Control Center with the name Muffin.
He was later rescued by Barky Pines Animal Rescue & Santuary, a nonprofit organization in Loxahatchee that rescues unwanted, special needs and senior animals.
Without this center’s rescue program, animals are at high risk of being euthanized.
Coco was welcomed into the shelter home of the center’s manager, Elizabeth Accomando after being treated for a severe skin condition known as sarcoptic mange.
Chico is a Shih-Tzu puppy, he was rescued from an abusive home when he was 6 months old under the name Rustle.
After rescuing him, the people who were taking care of him realized that something was not right, a strange smell was emanating from him, but it was not until when they went to the dog groomer that they discovered the mats around his snout.
His former owners, instead of training him, chose to close his mouth with a rubber band so tightly fitted that it was necessary to undergo surgery to remove it.
It was evident that this puppy had been mistreated by its owners, who were identified and prosecuted.
The staff at Barky Pines Animal Rescue & Santuary decided to introduce them and Chico and Coco immediately became best friends.
This pair of friends complement each other perfectly thanks to Chico’s gentle nature and Coco’s fun personality.
When the day was approaching when both would be available for adoption, the atmosphere in the shelter was not the same as that experienced with other pets ready to go home.
The staff at Barky Pines didn’t have much hope that these friends would see each other again once they found new homes.
But when Francisco and Margaret Freitas entered the shelter looking for a pet dog and approached Chico, they were surprisingly approached by Coco as if he were a bodyguard.
Francisco and Margaret were very impressed that the beautiful kitten was so protective of his friend.
Fortunately, the couple did not reject the possibility of taking a second pet and thus not separate this pair of friends who have been together since they met.
It was then that Chico and Coco were taken to the same home and now they will be united in a family that fills their lives with a lot of love. Share this great story that fortunately had a very happy ending.
