Debra Mejeur is a woman who suffers from epilepsy. The doctors recommended that she have a service dog to accompany her in the middle of any accident. That’s how the beautiful Lola came into her life and it didn’t take long for them to become best friends.
Lola was a very calm dog and always made Debra feel safe. Unfortunately, in mid-2017 she disappeared and her owners were left with a huge void in their hearts .
Debra and her husband, Steven Mejur, headed to a friend’s house in Illinois . Lola was left with a completely fenced yard but when Debra wanted to take a look she realized that her dog was simply nowhere to be found .
Somehow, the dog managed to jump over a fence and escaped into a wooded area. The couple immediately began searching and spoke to all the neighbors in hopes of receiving news about Lola.
Everything seemed to be in vain: no one had seen the cute dog . During all those months, the couple returned to Illinois every weekend to continue searching for Lola. They feared that she would not survive on her own but they never found the slightest trace of her pet. Time passed and they began to fear the worst .
“Every time we went back to Michigan I felt like I was leaving her behind. It was horrible,” Debra recalled.
They were about to accept the heartbreaking reality that they might never see their dog again. That’s when they finally received the call they had been waiting for.
“When they called me I started crying and shaking. “I couldn’t believe it,” Debra said.
Some people who lived in the forest had found Lola and had been giving her food. For them, it was not easy to gain the furry girl’s trust. She seemed to be very scared and wouldn’t let any humans get close.
After almost a year, they finally managed to put her on a leash and took her to the shelter to check if she had a microchip. All of Debra’s information was there so they didn’t hesitate to contact her. After three years , her dog had finally appeared.
“When we met again she smelled my forehead and gave me kisses. She was jumping with excitement. “It was a dream come true,” Debra said.
