Home birth success: UK mum delivers one of the country’s largest babies

Mum Gives Birth Tο Oпe Of The UK’s Biggest Hοme Birth Babies

A mother has revealed her experience giving birth to one of the largest infants born at home in the United Kingdom.

Tabitha was born on February 28, 2023, two and a half weeks after her due date. Tabitha’s birth weight made her one of the heaviest infants in the United Kingdom, in addition to her tardiness in entering the world. Since then, Tabitha’s mother, 36-year-old Ruth Harvey, has discussed the birth of her third child at home in Dundonald, Ayrshire.

Ruth gave birth to Tabitha after an eight-and-a-half-hour labor and a two-and-a-half-week delay, with a team of midwives and her companion Eddie urging her on from the sidelines. Ruth says she was not only ‘enjoyable’ but also’relaxed’ during the birth of Tabitha, who weighed a massive 12 lbs 9 oz at birth.

The mother explains, “I believe it was because I was at home that it was so calm. I was on my hands and knees in the pool. According to one school of thought, creatures give birth in gloomy, quiet environments. Eddie installed Christmas lights, and we rented a birthing pool. We do not have a carpet, so we have placed tarps and cloths on the floor. It was comparable to being in a resort with aromatherapy fragrances and a warm pool.”

Since then, Ruth’s recuperation has been “rapid,” and she is even “doing the school run again.” Tabitha has “only spent an hour in the hospital” due to the home birth, and all of Ruth and Eddie’s children were able to “listen to Tabitha’s pulse.” Ruth concluded that giving birth at home “certainly saves the NHS money” and was a “wonderful experience” with “phenomenal” midwives.

Ruth was not terribly surprised by Tabitha’s size, as she believes she “makes large infants anyway.” She explains, “My previous two were 9 pounds 9 ounces and 10 pounds 1 ounce.” Although Ruth did concede that Tabitha is a “huge infant.” “We know the midwives have never delivered an infant of this size at home. “Many people have commented, but no one has stated that their child was larger,” she adds.

The mother has even consulted the Guinness Book of World Records due to Tabitha’s impressive birth weight. The current record is held by Guy Carr, who was born in 1992 and weighed a massive 15 pounds and eight ounces at birth. George King, born in 2013, is the runner-up at 15lb 7oz.
